Session ІІ of School of Local Government Studies DESPRO 2018: on topical issues for communities in theory and practice, November 20-23, 2018
On November 20-23 in Kyiv the School of Local Government Studies DESPRO 2018 took place.
The principal idea of DESPRO School is forming necessary professional abilities in regions and communities. First of all, such abilities mean managerial and project competences – the ability to create and to realize efficient strategies and projects of local development, the ability to efficiently manage a territory in the conditions of decentralized powers and resources.
The participants of the Session II included 10 teams of amalgamated territorial communities and young specialists from local government bodies from 8 regions of Ukraine. Zaporizhzhia region was represented by Shyroke ATC.
The School functioned in the form of training modules aimed at increasing the awareness of the community’s active core in different spheres – economic, legal, social. The key topics of training were marketing of territories and communities, start-ups in innovative economy, self-organization and time management, gender equality in local government, economic development of a community, public budget, grant activity and others.
The coach of the training module ‘Marketing of Territories and Communities’ was CEO of MLS Group Nadiia Kuzmychova. Promotion of territories is a new direction of local government bodies which requires certain knowledge and professional competences.
At first stages of decentralization reform the created communities were searching for an opportunity to attract investments to local budgets, developed the skills of project activity but nowadays to the foreground came the question how a community should present itself, how to find or generate its uniqueness, how to market itself properly, how to form a brand of a community systematically and persistently. The answer to all these ‘how’ is in the sphere of marketing of territories, and the quicker the communities become aware of the real necessity of implementing marketing tools, the quicker and more efficiently they will move towards the realization of strategic goals.
